The best thing about Simchot Torah was not necessarily being in the presence of the community I have grown to know and love. It was not necessarily dancing with the Torah. Or being amongst the group of women dancing in a circle at the front of the synagague in a spirit of unity and femininity. It was not necessarily Betsy's delicious food. Or the great words spoken. Or the children parading with their flags.
It was this. This one snip-it of time.
Rabbi Neal reached out to Chandler and they walked around the shul, in procession with the others. Rabbi Neal carrying Torah with his arm around Chan...and Chandler with his tallit around his shoulders, his arm around Rabbi Neal and a smile on his face.
It was when I looked back behind me. As they passed. This view of cris-crossed arms. And the joyful step. It touched me in such a way that I almost found myself crying.
I would give money for a snapshot of that view. I would frame it and hang it on my wall.
It was beautiful.
And was my favorite part of Simchot Torah this year.

My favorite moments were of the wonderous look on Adeena's face as she waved her flag and followed all the kids around and of the look on Eli's face as he was running and playing with the other children - a look of sheer joy.
