Cherry Nuances

...

I could use a glass of wine that is rich & fruity, underpinned by a generous amount of smoky oak; nice structured tannins penetrating ripe cherry nuances.

I don't like to blog about work because it is the one area that I find needs to be off-limits.  Let me just say that I am overloaded and because of that, am doing nothing so that I can become part of the vicious, paralyzing cycle that will ruin me.  Nothing major! Ha!

In other news, I have been wanting to further my Jewish studies in a more formal way for a long time.  I considered WashU but they really don't have a program that fits for a working adult with a family.  I am not making a career move.  This is pure me wanting to geek out on Jewish courses. I found a university that offers a combination local university/distance learning program.

At first I was looking at their "certificate" program in Jewish Studies which is designed for those students who are ready to make a serious commitment to Jewish learning but are not ready to matriculate into the Online Master of Arts in Jewish Studies.  The requirements are simple: any six Jewish Studies electives. All of these courses apply towards a Masters degree, should the student wish to continue studying once the requirements for the Certificate program are met.

Instead, I decided to go with the undergraduate program because (1) I need the Hebrew and (2) the classes are too delicious to skip!  I applied, sent transcripts...

and...

I have been officially accepted to Gratz College!!!  I still need to provide them with two letters of recommendation which are being written by Rabbi Rose and Sara Winkelmann.  I saw a draft of Rabbi Rose's letter and I feel so honored by his words.  I might get teary-eyed, so I am moving forward here.

They accepted 42 credit hours of liberal arts (which is all that are required) as well as 3 credit hours toward Bible.  I will need to take 18 credits in Hebrew (G-d help me!) and 57 credits in Jewish Studies.  All the Jewish Studies courses must be taken through their college, either on campus or through distance learning.  Students also have the option of majoring in one particular subject area by taking 18 credits in the fields of Bible, History, Literature, Music, Rabbinics, Modern Thought or Contemporary Jewish Studies.  Even though I now have 3 credits towards Bible that transferred, I am much more interested in Rabbinics.  Maybe ten years ago, I would have definitely chosen Literature, but today--it is Rabbinics.  It's Talmud time!

If I had any money and two weeks to spare, I would start this summer on campus with their two-week Hebrew language intensive.  But, I don't. Ah well!

I am not planning a full load or anything like that. I want to do a good job but not at the expense of my children or my company. I will start slow to figure out how much of a load I can handle and my family can tolerate.  But all I can say is -- can I get a woo hoo in the house?!!

Kimber-
That's wonderful! I am so excited for you. You will have to pass on the readings lists. I also wander through the college bookstores of WashU and SLU to see what's being assigned. It's at great place to discover new things to read.
